Since X-ray Fluorescence is a surface analysis, the quality of the mold surface is very important to obtain high analytical accuracy and to ensure the best repeatability of the results. Therefore, it is highly recommended to always polish your molds to retain flat and smooth surfaces. If a mold surface develops blemishes, the glass disk may crack or stick to the platinumware. Other consequences might be the XRF intensity is decreased and the repeatability of the results diminishes. The following pictures demonstrate that all mold surface defaults will be reproduced on the bead surface.

The polishing can be done either at Claisse or in your laboratory. A mold polishing kit is available. On-site training is available too. For more information please call Luc Bérubé at (418) 656-6453.
