Leading scientists discuss recent developments in x-ray fluorescence (XRF) techniques in an interesting article entitled "Trends in X-ray Fluorescence and X-ray Diffraction". Among them, the President of Claisse USA and Canada John A. Anzelmo clarifies the importance of using the right sample preparation method to obtain a successful XRF analysis.

According to him, fusion has many advantages, but special attention must be paid to the weighing step since its often a major source of errors. To overcome challenges related to weighing, he suggests using pre-weighed fluxes that come in sealed vials since they save time, ensure high precision and reduce the risk of contamination. Mr. Anzelmo talks about the use of certified reference materials (CRMs) when standards are not available. Both of these products are available at Claisse.
